How to help prevent and Kill Mold & Biofilms in the home

A whopping 85% of homes have water and or mold! Many of you know this and know the importance of visually inspecting wet areas in the home.

Make sure your silicone is touched up near showers and failed caulking is removed and redone. You will also want to protect under sink areas by using silicone contact rolls under sink cabinets and water alarms.

Water alarms are most important under water heaters and water filters because these can flood your home.

Many people overlook areas prone to mold like toilet tanks, dishwashers and drains.

One of the biggest mistakes people do is use vinegar and bleach to clean shower grout. It does not inhibit mold, in fact, it can make it worse. Some of the best mold cleaners are Ozone(code HCL), Peroxide and Essential oils. In fact, when tested essential oils were far superior as a cleaner for mold against vinegar and bleach. Most don’t understand that certain essential oils don’t only kill mold, they break destroy biofilms. Biofilms are a place that mold spores can attach to and multiply like crazy, when in a warm area they will produce mycotoxins which can make people very ill. Diffusing essential oils in an area after cleaning is not only helpful to kill any mold that has become airborne, it actually drops the airborne mold to the ground so it is less likely to be inhaled.

I love to make a DIY grout and mold cleaner with these products.

I use about 50 drops of each oil with 2 cups oxy powder and 2 cups of baking soda mixed well. sprinkle powder on area and spray with your favorite cleaner. Let sit for 5-30 minutes before scrubbing. Wear gloves and a mask if needed and diffuse onguard & abode after you clean.
